Improving Point-of-Service Collections: A Rural Hospital Perspective

Critical access hospitals face a unique set of challenges with their rural locations, small markets and limited resources. Adding to these challenges, rural hospitals – like all hospitals – must now deal with higher patient out-of-pocket expenses that are squeezing margins that were already razor thin.

As patient out-of-pocket payments grow, the demand for patient friendly billing and transparency is becoming even more important. Patients are demanding transparency and they expect providers to be able to quantify the costs at or before the point of service.
