Q: My husband's wallet, including credit cards, an expired driver's license and his insurance card, was stolen and we reported everything. Could the thieves still damage our credit?
A: You acted correctly in reporting the theft of the wallet to all of the companies concerned. If you have contacted all the authorities, including the motor vehicle office, your health insurance provider, and credit card holders, you have made a good start in protecting these accounts. To protect your credit score you should also consider contacting the credit bureaus to add a fraud alert
and/or security freeze to your credit files to prevent new credit from being opened or other fraud on other open accounts.
