The State of Online Gambling Fraud: An Interview with Declan Raines

There’s big money to be made as more states legalize mobile gaming. When mobile betting went live in New York at the start of 2022, residents wagered more than $1.6 billion in January alone.

Of course, criminals follow the money.  TransUnion’s 2022 Global Digital Fraud Trends Report found gaming fraud rose nearly 35% in one year.

Much of the uptick in fraud can be attributed to bonus abuse. In the rush to acquire new players, operators have opened themselves up to fraud, Declan Raines, head of TransUnion US gaming, pointed out. How can operators mitigate this risk?
