Credit Disputes and Adjustments
An accurate credit report is essential to your financial well-being
As your trusted source for credit information, TransUnion offers quick, online access to credit dispute services – it’s fast, easy and secure. You can also choose to initiate a dispute by phone or mail.
When TransUnion receives your dispute request, typically we will contact the data provider or source that provided us with the information. That source will have 30 days – in some cases up to 45 days – to investigate your dispute and verify whether the information reported is correct.
When you have a dispute pending, it’s best to wait to apply for credit. This will ensure that the most current credit report is available for a creditor or lender to review when making a credit-related decision.
If the data provider or source cannot verify the information, it will be corrected or removed from your credit report. Otherwise the information will be updated as instructed by the data provider.
If the investigation was initiated online,
you will be notified via email and can view the results of the investigation immediately. Note that if you login to check your dispute status during the process, you will see the original, uncorrected version of your credit report – the version that was generated when you filed the dispute.
If the investigation was initiated by phone or mail,
a credit report reflecting the results of the investigation will be sent via first-class U.S. mail. Please allow three to five business days from the time we complete our investigation for mail delivery.
