Safe at Home: California Address Confidentiality Program

Safe at Home is a confidential address program run by the California Secretary of State's Office. It provides a substitute mailing address to receive first class, certified, and registered mail for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, elder or dependent adult abuse, and for reproductive health care workers and public entity employees fearing for their safety. This address is accepted by California government agencies, helping keep victims' real addresses confidential and secure. 

How to submit a request to TransUnion

If you are currently participating in the Safe at Home program, you can take the following steps to update the address information on your TransUnion credit file. 

Step 1: Write a letter to TransUnion

The letter should indicate you are participating in the Safe at Home program and identify the address(es) you would like removed from your credit report. Also include your new Safe at Home address that should be added. 

Step 2: Provide proof of identity and proof of your participation in the Safe at Home program

You need to include proof of your participation in the program (by providing a photocopy of the Safe at Home acceptance letter or Safe at Home Authorization Card) and proof of your identity. 

Please only submit photocopies of documents that prove your identity. Examples of proof of identity documents include:

Proof of Identification Documents (Provide 1)

• Driver's license

• Government-issued ID

• Passport

• Social Security card

• Birth certificate

Step 3: Mail your documents
